I picked up this book because I've been craving a mafia book reaaaaally bad, but I'm not super into dark dark romance. Because of this, it took me a few days to actually find a book that I thought was going to be just the right amount of dark for me, and wow am I so happy that I picked this one up! I actually picked this one over the first one because the first one initially sounded like it was going to be darker than I wanted -- but after reading this one I'm pretty convinced this is the right author/series for me! If, like me, you are on the fence about this series and are reading this review: just keep in mind that the story is not quite what it seems, and is even better in the end because of it! I absolutely loved how this book developed, even if I did feel there were a few moments that could have been cut (it just felt like it was dragging a little bit, when we could have skipped a scene or two), and the characters are extremely loveable. I squealed more than once, absolutely melted with every sassy interaction, and definitely felt like I was burning when the spicy scenes finally chimed in.
