5/5 ⭐ 1/5 🌶️ 📖 My Thoughts What a tragically beautiful story. I’ve always felt that if a book can make me cry, the writing was phenomenal. I loved how the book started out with this mystique - like you’re on a case to solve this murder of a young girl, yet it surpasses all of your expectations by bringing so much more to the surface. All of the characters had such depth that I was immersed with each of them. The two main characters were Olivia and Lily; following their POV’s in opposite directions. With Olivia, we’re going forward from the tragic accident that occurs and, with Lily, we’re going backwards from that moment. It was a little confusing at first, but it was such a unique touch that ended up flowing beautifully. ⚠️ Triggers •Transphobia •Physical & emotional abuse •Child abuse •Self-harm •Attempted suicide •Abortion •Murder •Physical assault •Bullying 🏳️🌈 Representation One of the main characters is a trans woman and the author wrote this character with such sensitivity and knowledge. You truly empathize with her while at the same time learning things that you may have been completely uneducated on. It was refreshing. 🌶️ Spice This book wasn’t focused on spice by any means but there were a few scenes. A couple brief scenes with one of the characters and her abusive ex husband take place. We also get a few scenes with the other main character and her boyfriend. They were all pretty vague. 📝 Special Notes I just want to note and praise how much research and dedication went into this book. A lot of education on transgender women mainly, but also men as well as nonbinary individuals. Not to mention all of the education on apiaries and honey plus tons of other ‘did you know’ facts that blew my mind and made me love this book even more! (I try to refrain from dropping character names when talking about the plot so as to spoil the book less)

This was such a touching and heartbreaking story. I was not expecting this to be as good as it was. I loved the povs of the 2 leading fmcs - they were so different and had their own unique endurances with the hardships they each had to overcome. The more I read the more attached to these characters I got and I desperately needed them to be ok, despite knowing they never would be. This was so beautifully written, with trans representation, education, and a true understanding of domestic violence and some of the after effects it has. There were so many heavy emotions captured throughout, I had a lot of feelings reading this. 🌶️ 1.5/5 Theres some vague spice in this, but it's endearing and not about the smutt, its with purpose and tastefully done in a way thats not even remotely part of the overall plot, but something that seems more like a coming of age memory.
